As we celebrate the joy of the Christmas season, let’s rewind the clock to a Christmas Eve 40 years ago. It was around 6 pm when I took a heartfelt leap of faith that would change our lives forever.

Every parent has the right to name their child as they wish. However, as one with an unusual name I’m hoping that someone will pass this one to this couple. PLEASE for the sake of that baby, swap the first and middle names. He will go through life having to explain his name, everywhere, in every situation, in every relationship. Those who are kin to him will have to do the same. I know Ben and Jessa did not mean to be unkind but I am warning them – giving that child the first name Spurgeon when most Americans don’t know American history let alone Christian history is UNKIND. Both of them have easy to read and understand names. And yes, I know who Charles Haddon Spurgeon is.

Just wanted to tell you congratulations and commend you on being able to handle Spurgeon’s size at birth. Our bodies are truly and wonderfully made. I was blessed with three children, Boy at 21-1/2 inches long and weighing 10 lbs 13 oz (#1), a girl (baby #2) 20″ long and 9 lbs 5 ounces, and a final boy at 21″, weighing 9 lbs 4 oz. The terrific thing about having larger babies is they are generally stronger and I feel less fragile than the smaller babies. My daughter now has a 3 year old son who was 8 lbs 12 ounces at birth and is now a very proportional strong boy who is talking a blue streak. I’m sorry if you got a lot of newborn size outfits as gifts as babies of this size may be able to wear them once and then they don’t fit – lol. Blessings to you and your families.

I love Charles Spurgeon; he was a true man of God and God used him in reaching the outcasts. Outcasts are God’s treasures.
Grateful that God has blessed you with this precious baby boy. Using the names of godly people is a neat way to remember God’s grace and mercy and His love taught through them. 🙂
Heard the name .. I didnt like it … But when I heard his complete name.. It suits him………it goes well with yalls last name……………Is there going to be a nickname? I do love the name Elliot .. Bless you both… beautiful baby boy !!!

Are any of your older children involved in any courtships? Are any of them in the early “getting to know you” stage with anyone special? I hope that you’ll continue to share with us news about courtships, marriages, and new babies even without the show on TV! Watching Josh, Jill, and Jessa courting, married, and starting their own families was such a blessing a joy that it’s devastating to think about NOT getting to see that with the other children. Please, keep updating us on your precious family because there are SO many people out there who think of you as part of our family, even though we’ve never met you! 🙂
