Statement From Jim Bob and and Michelle Duggar:

Please see the statement below from our son Josh regarding recent media stories about him.  When we learned of this late last night our hearts were broken. As we continue to place our trust in God we ask for your prayers for Josh, Anna, our grandchildren and our entire family.

Statement From Josh Duggar:

I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife.

I am so ashamed of the double life that I have been living and am grieved for the hurt, pain and disgrace my sin has caused my wife and family, and most of all Jesus and all those who profess faith in Him.

I brought hurt and a reproach to my family, close friends and the fans of our show with my actions that happened when I was 14-15 years old, and now I have re-broken their trust.

The last few years, while publicly stating I was fighting against immorality in our country while hiding my own personal failings.

As I am learning the hard way, we have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences. I deeply regret all the hurt I have caused so many by being such a bad example.

I humbly ask for your forgiveness. Please pray for my precious wife Anna and our family during this time.

Josh Duggar

Everyone makes mistakes. I am Christian. And if I sit here and point my finger at people and get upset and what people do wrong, that would make me a hypocrite. All people makes mistakes.. It is so hard hearing how people treat others when they make mistakes and can be so hurtful. Words are powerful. I have been praying for you guys. Our family has been through many obstacles as well.. I have 4 children and 2 of my children have done things that has left me heart broken. But God loves them. God gave me these children for a reason. I will love them and be there for them. No matter what is said, you guys have an amazing family. God is great and will get everyone though it alll.

Dear Josh, I forgive you, you need to ask God forgiveness and bow down to your sweet wife forgiveness. Let God guide your way. Do good and stay in peace. Our country needs peace and love.

You are a great family and has been a wonderful example for many. The Duggar family are not defined by Josh or by any other mistakes or sins or weaknesses there might be in the family or what they have achieved as a family and the testimony of Christ that has gone forth from their midst. They are defined by "sonship" ... they belong to God. It is good to read Josh' confession and that he is in rehabilitation. I want to say thought that it is a small step in the right direction because it is a well known fact that addicts are not true to their words (sadly) but by what they do. Many addicts confess and ask for forgiveness with tears in their eyes pleading for a second change but their deeds in recovery speaks harder than their words. What Josh is going to DO in the future regarding his own recovery and what Anna is going to do in her own walk in recovery from this devastating blow to her as a wife and mother. Trust is not restored once the confession is made trust is earned. Is Josh going to earn her trust? I walked for many years alongside an addict as his wife and I don't say these things lightly. I am counselling couples in the same position as Josh and Anna. As a Christian I want to say: Do not treat this lightly. Do not push Anna back into the marriage with the Christian advise: "by your good behaviour he will be won over". So many wives have to hear that and "only forgive" and then they are being destroyed and hurt even more. Pornography is adultery and Josh even went further. Hopefully she will get counselling from Christians who are working in the field of addictions and specifically with partners of addicts. My heart goes out to Anna and I hope she is surrounded with wise people who will help her to walk through this great wisdom. Forgiveness is a process and takes time too. Hopefully she will be given the time to heal properly before she moves back with Josh when he has recovered. May Anna find and walk in the comfort of the Holy Spirit and in the freedom of forgiveness. May Josh heal from his addiction and walk in honesty and integrity with God into his future.
